Mongolia Highlights

Jun – July 2019

A selection of my favorite photos from a two week Mongolia road trip. Mongolia offers incredible raw natural beauty and in many places it seems that time has stood still. Traveling deep into the country is not for those who seek comfort and luxury. The rewards are an experience that only few travelers can talk about though. We drove around for 15 days in an old 4-wheel drive Russian army minibus, spending the night either with locals or camping in the wild.

For this Mongolia road trip I was initially thinking of renting a car and self-drive. Mongolia is not a self-drive destination though, unless you’re a real off-road enthusiast. And then only when you are with people who speak Mongolian or Russian. And who know how to fix a car.
So we ended up renting a Russian 4-wheel drive minibus. These cars were previously used by the Russian army in remote areas of the former Soviet Union.
