The Hadzabe of Lake Eyasi

Tanzania’s Last Hunter-Gatherers

The Hadzabe are one of the last true hunter-gatherer tribes on Earth. Residing around the salty shores of Lake Eyasi in Northern Tanzania, they live in a way that has remained virtually unchanged for over 10,000 years, offering a rare visual connection to humanity's collective past.

In the rugged, baobab-studded bush surrounding Tanzania’s Lake Eyasi, the Hadzabe remain as one of the world’s final links to a pre-agricultural era. They are a people of the moment, possessing no permanent crops, no livestock, and no written laws. These images observe a society that thrives on the pulse of the wild — where survival is dictated by the snap of a bowstring and the discovery of a honey-filled hive.
