Bajawa

Flores, July 2016
Bajawa is a charming hill town on the island of Flores and is surrounded by forest-covered mountains and a spectacular natural beauty. The town is the centre of the Ngada region, the most culturally rich area of Flores, where traditional religions and customs thrive. Bajawa’s biggest draw are the traditional villages surrounding it. The best way to discover the area and villages is by foot, hiking from one village to another along ancient trails through the forested hills and plantations.

Bajawa - Flores

Bajawa - Flores

The Ngada Regency in central Flores might be one of Indonesia’s poorest regions, but culturally it is certainly one of its richest. The green valleys of Ngada are dotted with traditional villages with unique megalithic stone structures, against the backdrop of the towering Inerie volcano.
